Summary: The conversation that should have happened. One-shot.
---
After a moment of silence, Jimmy’s mouth presses into a hard line.
“I want to hate you. I should hate you.”
“I know.”
“You should have been there.”
Lana, Chloe, Lionel. “I should have been a lot of places that day.”
“You don’t deserve her love.”
Wait. “What?”
“We talk. She’s honest with me about enough that I know what you mean to her.”
And the knife in my gut twists.
“She’s really trying to give me the chance you never gave her. I suppose in a way, I should thank you. A guy like me shouldn’t even have a shot with a girl like her.”
“What do you mean?”
“Look at her. Even now, she’s an angel.
“She’s beautiful, sparkly, smart, and generally amazing. She cares more about the world than anyone I know.
“Save a shared interest in Journalism, what chance do you think a guy like me could ever hope for with a girl like that?
“From what I heard of the Luthor Engagement Party, you knew Chloe carried a torch for you all along. You knew she would treat you better, yet you wasted years pining for Lana. Why?”
“Chloe must’ve told you we tried once. It didn’t go so well.”
“I heard about that four years ago. That dance you left her at.”
“Yeah, she said then that we should just stay friends.”
“And you took the out. You never even tried to keep her. Idiot.”
“I knew better than to fight her.”
“Then you don’t know jack about my girl.”
Jimmy may not be able to hate me, but I don’t have that problem.
